Okay, it looks like all I did was shop this week. Since moving I've been trying to get on a new shopping schedule. The sales in Kentucky all started on Sunday so I always did my shopping on Monday or Tuesday. Chocolate Cheerios Review & Giveaway

Have you spotted Chocolate Cheerios on the grocery store shelves yet? Given my obsession with love of chocolate, it's no surprise that I was excited about giving these a try. I must say I was not disappointed. They were crunchy and chocolatey without being too sugary tasting. I enjoyed them as a treat in the morning as well as an afternoon snack. My kids really loved them too.

As much as we loved eating them in a bowl with milk, I also think using them in this recipe would be a fun treat for Valentine's Day.

Chocolate Cheerios® Marshmallow Hearts

Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Start to Finish: 1 Hour 45 Minutes

Crust
1 cup Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
1 cup Chocolate Cheerios® cereal, crushed
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups miniature marshmallows
Topping
2/3 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 bag (11.5 ounces) milk chocolate chips
4 cups Chocolate Cheerios® cereal
Candy sprinkles, if desired

Heat oven to 350°F. Line bottom and sides of 13x9-inch pan with foil. In large bowl, mix all crust ingredients except marshmallows with electric mixer on low speed until crumbly. Press firmly into bottom of pan.

Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until light golden brown. Remove from oven. Immediately sprinkle with marshmallows. Return to oven; bake an additional 1 to 2 minutes or until marshmallows just begin to puff. Cool while preparing topping.

In large saucepan, place all topping ingredients except cereal and sprinkles. Heat over medium-low heat just until chips are melted and mixture is smooth, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in 4 cups cereal. Immediately spoon warm topping over marshmallows; spread to cover. Sprinkle with candy sprinkles. Cool completely, at least 1 hour.

Using foil to lift, remove mixture from pan; remove foil. With deep 2 1/2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out 18 hearts. Store loosely covered.

Declutter Challenge: January Update

>> Monday, February 1, 2010

You may have noticed the Declutter Challenge button on the sidebar of my blog. Earlier this month I joined in the Declutter Challenge at The Finer Things In Life. I've been focused on decluttering for much of the last two years. At first it was just letting go of the baby things we were hanging onto but it began to go beyond that. Last year I posted a series called Simpifying Saturday in which I shared the decluttering I was doing. This year I will be tracking my decluttering efforts monthly with the Declutter Challenge.

It became painfully obvious during our move from Kentucky to Florida that even with all the decluttering we had done it was not enough. Our previous two houses had lots of storage space allowing us to keep more than we really needed. When it was time to pack up for this last move we were very disappointed to realize all of our stuff would not fit on a 26' truck. We had to rent an additional 12 ' trailer to carry the rest. Not only was this extra work for us, it was also extra money out of our pockets. We are more committed than ever to live with less.

My goal for decluttering this year is 50 items a month for a total of 600 items by the end of the year.

Here is how I did in January.

I donated:
25 clothing items

I tossed:
12 Health & Beauty items
2 Finger Puppets
1 small ball
4 old knives
1 old scrapbook(husbands with school work in it)

I placed in Yard Sale box:
2 purses
1 backpack
1 pkg. Wall Decor
20 Christmas ornaments

My Monthly Total: 69 items

Menu Plan Monday 2/1/10

In keeping with my goal to cook more from scratch this year I made my very first pie crust last week. Shocking I've made it almost 40 years having never done that before. I made it for the pot pie I was making for dinner. The recipe I used made enough for two crusts though so I had one left over. I wrapped the extra up and kept it in the fridge for a couple of days before I decided what to do with it. I finally decided on Chocolate Side Pies. The turned out perfectly.

I just made the recipe up as I went:
Roll out crust and cut 4 circles with large cup. (kneading and re-rolling as needed)
Mixed together cocoa powder and sugar.
Spoon mixture onto crust circle and dot with butter.
Fold over and crimp edges and prick vent holes with a fork.
Sprinkle with a little sugar.
Bake at 425 degrees until done approx. 12-14 minutes.

Now onto what we'll be eating this week:
Grilled chicken breasts, rice, steamed veggies
Spaghetti with Italian sausage and marinara sauce, salad
Chicken Parmesan Pizza
Crockpot roast and veggies
Black Bean Soup

For more menu inspiration, stop by I'm An Organizing Junkie.
