Horizon Organic Lowfat Chocolate Milk Review & Giveaway

>> Tuesday, March 9, 2010

As a mom who regularly buys organic milk for my family, I was very interested when I was contacted by Horizon via my membership at The Product Review Place to try out their Horizon Organic Lowfat Chocolate Milk with DHA Omega-3. I wasted no time in picking some of this up after receiving my two coupons to try it free. I poured the first two glasses for my girls and then one for myself. The first thing I heard was "Mmmmmmm" from my girls. They loved it and I did too. I enjoyed it so much I ended up pouring myself a second glass as soon as I finished the first. It's incredibly rich and creamy. The next day I offered my husband some and he agreed it was as tasty as the girls and I thought it was. We are definitely looking forward to drinking more of this yummy treat.

About Horizon Organic Lowfat Chocolate Milk with DHA Omega-3

Horizon Organic Lowfat Chocolate Milk with DHA Omega-3 provides a great tasting and easy way to add calcium and DHA to your family's diet. DHA Omega-3 is an important nutrient that helps support heart, brain and eye health, and it's available in lowfat half gallons.

DHA belongs to a category of healthy fatty acids known as Omega-3's. Found in high concentrations in the tissues of the brain and eye, DHA Omega-3 is thought to help support healthy function in these areas. DHA has also been shown to help support heart health.

DHA provides a nutritional boost for children's growing minds and bodies. Children's brains grow incredibly fast. In fact, the brain nearly quadruples in the first five years of life.

DHA is a key structural component of the brain, yet many young children don't get their recommended daily amount of DHA as it is found in a limited number of food sources.

Horizon Organic Milk Plus DHA Omega-3 is fortified with a natural, 100 percent vegetarian and sustainable source of DHA - a safe, wholesome, delicious way to bring more of this important nutrient into your family's diet.

Chocolate Cheerios Review & Giveaway

>> Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Have you spotted Chocolate Cheerios on the grocery store shelves yet? Given my obsession with love of chocolate, it's no surprise that I was excited about giving these a try. I must say I was not disappointed. They were crunchy and chocolatey without being too sugary tasting. I enjoyed them as a treat in the morning as well as an afternoon snack. My kids really loved them too.

As much as we loved eating them in a bowl with milk, I also think using them in this recipe would be a fun treat for Valentine's Day.

Chocolate Cheerios® Marshmallow Hearts

Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Start to Finish: 1 Hour 45 Minutes

Crust
1 cup Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
1 cup Chocolate Cheerios® cereal, crushed
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups miniature marshmallows
Topping
2/3 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 bag (11.5 ounces) milk chocolate chips
4 cups Chocolate Cheerios® cereal
Candy sprinkles, if desired

Heat oven to 350°F. Line bottom and sides of 13x9-inch pan with foil. In large bowl, mix all crust ingredients except marshmallows with electric mixer on low speed until crumbly. Press firmly into bottom of pan.

Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until light golden brown. Remove from oven. Immediately sprinkle with marshmallows. Return to oven; bake an additional 1 to 2 minutes or until marshmallows just begin to puff. Cool while preparing topping.

In large saucepan, place all topping ingredients except cereal and sprinkles. Heat over medium-low heat just until chips are melted and mixture is smooth, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in 4 cups cereal. Immediately spoon warm topping over marshmallows; spread to cover. Sprinkle with candy sprinkles. Cool completely, at least 1 hour.

Using foil to lift, remove mixture from pan; remove foil. With deep 2 1/2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out 18 hearts. Store loosely covered.

General Mills Reduces Sugar In Cereal And $1 Off Coupon

>> Thursday, January 21, 2010

My kids love cereal. More specifically my kids love sugary cereals and to be honest so do I. Sitting down to a bowl of Cookie Crisp cereal takes me straight back to childhood. But as a mom I try to limit the amount of sugar my kids consume so I don't buy a lot of the sugary cereals that line the shelves of most supermarkets. I was glad to hear recently that General Mills has committed to further reducing the sugar in cereals that are advertised to children 12 and under, limiting the amount of sugar to single digit grams per serving. And my kids were happy when I recently came home with boxes of Cocoa Puffs and Cookie Crisp cereal.

Did you know that ready-to-eat cereal eaters consume less fat, less cholesterol and more fiber than non-cereal eaters? Cereals also deliver important vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, making cereal a top source of key nutrients in children’s diets.

Other cereal benefits:

Ready-to-eat cereals, including presweetened cereals, account for only 5% of sugar in children’s diets.

Ready-to-eat cereal is the No. 1 source of whole grains in a child’s diet today.

More frequent cereal eaters tend to have healthier body weights and lower Body Mass Index measures.

Studies also demonstrate the benefits of eating breakfast. A 1998 study showed that children who eat breakfast tend to perform better at school. Compared to children who skip breakfast, children who eat breakfast score higher on tests, are less likely to miss class or be tardy, have fewer reported discipline problems, and make fewer trips to the office.

If you wold like to try General Mills cereal yourself, General Mills and MyBlogSpark have provided a $1 off General Mills cereal coupon which can be found here.

WEN Cleansing Conditioner Review

>> Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Have you seen the infomercials for the WEN Healthy Hair Care System by Chaz Dean? Were you as intrigued as I was by this product? I found the idea of cleansing my hair without the use of harsh chemicals very appealing. I was understandably thrilled when I got the opportunity to try WEN Cleansing Conditioner thanks to my membership at The Product Review Place. I received a full size bottle of the Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner to try.

From the Wen website:WEN® Sweet Almond Mint flavor is recommended for all hair types. WEN® is designed to eliminate ordinary shampoo, without sacrificing the integrity and beauty of your hair. Created with a perfect balance of ingredients including herbs and natural ingredients, it not only cleanses your scalp and hair but it also moisturizes, soothes, strengthens and adds sheen.

The first thing I noticed when trying this product was the scent. The sweet almond mint was fresh and invigorating. Next I was struck by the fact that there were no bubbles since this product is free of the harsh ingredients that create lather and strip you hair of its natural oils. I messaged the cleansing conditioner into my scalp and combed it through my hair as directed. I let it stay in my hair while I showered and then rinsed it out. After the very first try, I noticed a difference in the way my hair looked at felt. It was noticeably softer and less frizzy. I've used WEN Cleansing Conditioner for almost a month now and my hair has changed for the better. Before I started using it I kept my hair pulled back in clips and ponytails most days because it was so frizzy and unmanageable. Now I wear it down almost everyday. WEN Cleansing Conditioner is a welcome addition to my hair care routine.

To learn more about the WEN Healthy Hair Care System visit the website. You can purchase the complete WEN Healthy Hair Care System which includes 12 oz. WEN Cleansing Conditioner, 2 oz. WEN Styling Creme, 2 oz. WEN Re Moist Intensive Hair Repair Mask, 10 g WEN Texture Balm and a WEN Wide Tooth Shower Comb for $29.95.

Disclosure: I was provided a bottle of WEN Cleansing Conditioner to try for this review. I received no compensation for this review and all opinions expressed are my own.
